Testimonials
from our visitors

I was looking for a more fast casual situation which exists at the Wharf version of this restaurant, but our meal here was delish nonetheless.
We started with the clam chowder in a garlic butter toasted bread bowl ($27.00). The clam chowder was good and satiating. Was the best I've ever eaten? No, but the garlic butter toasted bread bowl was an unexpectedly good accompaniment to the clam chowder.
To keep lunch light, we also shared Neptune's Platter ($36.00). It comes with fried cod, shrimp, crab cake, calamari, and fries. This was a really good value because you get plenty of seafood for a reasonable price. Everything was lightly battered and crisped. I especially liked the cod because it's a sturdy, meaty piece of fish. This was perfect to share.
Old Fisherman's Grotto's dark, moody ambiance is more suited for a nice dinner.

This restaurant was a great surprise, always worry about high traffic tourist areas but this one is the exception. Wonderful bloody marys, oysters were out of this world and the clam chowder superb. Fish and chips okay but best part was french fries. Would definitely drive out of my way to go back

My husband and I ate 2 dinners at the Old Fishermans Grotto while visiting Monterey. The second night we celebrated my husband's 89th birthday and were given a large piece of very good light cheesecake They specialize in seafood which was excellent compared to the Italian or steak offerings which were kind of average Would definitely would return. I enjoy the comfortable seating and views of a bay.

Monterey, with its ocean-kissed breezes and sweeping coastal views, is home to many fine dining spots--but this one is an absolute must. Each visit here has been a masterclass in consistent excellence: warm hospitality, an inviting atmosphere, and plates that sing with the flavors of the sea. From our table, we enjoyed a postcard-perfect view of the Pacific, while our server, Ricardo, provided service so genuine and gracious it felt as though we were dining in a friend's home.
We began with the Trio Appetizer, a sampler that showcased the kitchen's finesse. The calamari was delicately crisp yet tender within, each bite imbued with flavor. The crab cake, luxuriously moist, captured the sweetness of fresh crab, while the accompanying grilled shrimp bore the telltale char of expert timing--smoky, succulent, and utterly satisfying.
The seafood linguine Isabella was the evening's showstopper: a creamy, buttery canvas layered with the essence of the ocean. Tender lobster, kissed with a subtle char, sat alongside velvety salmon that practically dissolved on the tongue with every bite. Each element harmonizing beautifully. The clam chowder--served with bread perfect for dipping--was rich, comforting, and among the top three I've ever tasted.
By the end of the meal, we were thoroughly content, our appetites wholly indulged, with no room left for dessert--a small sacrifice in the name of such abundance. This is the kind of dining experience that lingers in memory long after the last bite.
