Lunch after whale watching The clam chowder was the best I've ever had. Cozy spot away from the bustle of the boardwalk. Wish we had more time to come back!

Almost 60 years of wonderfulness from Old Fisherman's Grotto In 1967, my husband and I dined at Old Fisherman’s Grotto as our one “elegant” (i.e., over-our-budget) dinner on our honeymoon. We received meticulous service and marvelous food, even if we clearly were just poor kids wanting to be fancy. Because that had been such a memorable experience, in 1991, we hosted our family for his parents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary. Old Fisherman’s Grotto handled our large group seamlessly and EVERYONE was delighted. Then, in 2017, it was time for our own fiftieth anniversary. Of course we traveled to Monterey to go to Old Fisherman’s Grotto and they outdid themselves. I’m still overwhelmed at how they made our evening astonishing with a table scattered with rose petals, extraordinary attention, and a special dessert . And then last year a friend and I returned to celebrate my 80th birthday. We didn’t mention that it was an occasion, but they made it so. Clearly, this is how Old Fisherman’s Grotto treats ALL their guests. Folks, we’re talking decades of superb cuisine and astonishing service from a family-run restaurant committed to a level of hospitality that’s seldom found these days. We’re coming up on our 58th anniversary and I’ll give you one guess where we’re planning to have dinner. So for everything from a nice meal in a lovely setting to a very special occasion where you’ll be treated to a superb experience, choose Old Fisherman’s Grotto. You will not be disappointed.

DON’T MISS THIS RESTAURANT! Wonderful! GREAT STAFF, FOOD AND SERVICE! The clam chowder in the GARLIC TOASTED BREAD BOWL was a full meal! The bread was so fresh and the chowder was thick and full of clam meat. The Mexican style shrimp cocktail was prepared just the way my Mexican wife is accustomed to. We were so full after eating the appetizers, that we took the delicious Calamari eggplant parmigiana back to our hotel after sampling a bite of this delicious main dish. Omar the waiter, and Ricardo the shift manger were wonderful. We were going to go to another restaurant tomorrow night, but we will return here with our friends. This is a MUST DO! Best seafood on Monterey Wharf Nicely surprised and impressed for a touristy wharf with this refreshingly delightful restaurant on so many accounts. A great memorable dining experience, good fit a special occassion too. Seafood was fresh, enticingly presented, locally sourced and promptly served. Had steamed crab, crab Louie with organic Salinas lettuce, a decadent stuffed crab pretzel (yum), hot peach pie, and latte. Very attentive waiters. View of the bay at this 2-story restaurant with a mixture of tables & comfortable booth seating separated with glass partitions. A bar seating area is also available. Overall very clean, a bit dated but cozy and quaint, old-school design with wood paneling, carpets in warm colors. Appreciated that the dining area is quiet with well-behaved children, but no booster seating and strollers.

Eat here The best place to eat on the wharf.Much nicer than you would think to find on a wharf,and the food is great.Don't hesitate to ask your server what they recommend.
