Austin and Sol provided excellent service with our meal! The 75 year old clam chowder recipe was beyond outstanding! Our Parmesan crusted cod was amazing too.....we were seated next to the window and Every thing was perfect! Yummy lemon drop martinis Tom and Janice Bigger, Chattanoogas, TN

Never fails always good from the food to the service and of course the ambiance.Brad is attentive and excellent in what he does.The clam chowder is the best I've been to different places but nothing beats Fisherman's Grotto.The salmon that i ordered is fresh.Everything is good and the best.

Best Dining Experience in Town!

The Old Fisherman's Grotto truly deserves every one of these five stars! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how fancy and elegant the restaurant was. It has a classy atmosphere that still feels warm and inviting -- and the view of the ocean is absolutely breathtaking. You really can't beat it!

Let's talk about the food -- top quality across the board. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Their clam chowder is hands down the BEST we've ever had -- creamy, rich, and loaded with flavor. We were also given a free appetizer, which was such a nice surprise and added a special touch to the meal.

What really made the experience unforgettable was our server, Pablo. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly -- truly gave us the best service we've had in a long time. He made us feel like VIPs from start to finish.

They also have more menu options than any other place locally, so there's something for everyone. With the outstanding service, high-quality food, beautiful setting, and generous portions, everything was absolutely worth the price.

If you're anywhere near Monterey, don't miss out on The Old Fisherman's Grotto. You'll be glad you went!

The food was really good and the service as well. The server Pablo in particular was very nice and professional taking care of my allergies requirements. The restaurant is very clean, well decorated with view to the bay, and de background music was pleasant. It was an enjoyable and relaxing dinner after a long day exploring Monterey.

Like an old salt, old fishermen's grotto is the one thing I can always depend on when visiting the wharf at Monterey. My go to is always the chowder here, as well as the paella. I also ordered the clams and the crab Louie this time, and all were excellent. Yes there are plenty of other restaurants on the wharf, but imo none can beat the price and quality at the grotto. After all, there is a reason why its chowder is ranked #1 in the area for 21 years.
The decor of the restaurant, as well as the service were also very, very excellent. Staff were courteous and prompt. I strongly recommend you give this place a try.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing hands-down one of the best experiences we've ever had. The service was beyond exceptional; and words just don't do justice for the food. 100/10 would recommend. Reuben was a fantastic server. Thank you for making our honeymoon dinner so special!

Came by for an early dinner and everything was so good! For our drinks, we ordered a lemon drop and espresso martini which were both excellent.

We started with the seafood sampler for our appetizer, which comes with grilled shrimp, a crab cake, and calamari. The calamari was fantastic, very light and crispy. For the mains, we ordered the Crab Ravioli and Linguine Isabella, and both were delicious. The linguine was very creamy and the ravioli was rich and creamy. They also brought out fresh parmesan which was a nice touch.

Our server was really friendly and checked in just the right amount. Definitely coming back if we're in the area!

Always an all time favorite for my family. The food is always delicious and made to order. The service is exceptional, and the ambience reminds us of an old retro restaurant with the white linens and the professionally dressed servers from the earlier years when dining experience like that was the standard way of dining out.

But It doesn't stop there they have a tray of desserts to indulge in and we can never pass it up. It was our anniversary and they gave us a special designed dessert .

Excellent food & service! We went there for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. I saw that they were highly rated online, so I looked at their menu. I called the restaurant to see how long the wait was for two people, and I was told about 20-30 minutes. When we arrived, we were seated right away (two tables became open)! We were seated at a table in the second row from the window, but we still had great views. We were greeted right away by our Server Sal. We ordered two appetizers: Oysters Rockefeller ($15 for 3 pieces) and Clams Brodelaise ($20). The oysters were super delicious! Their version had bacon bits! The clams were very good, too, but the oysters were my favorite. The hubby had the Halibut and Prawns ($49), and I had the Captain's Plate ($49). Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. The standout items were the candied sweet potatoes, coconut shrimp and scallops! Hubby also had a glass of Mondavi Grigio ($11) with his dinner. Sal helped him with the wine pairing. I had iced tea ($5). He got a free slice of cheesecake for his birthday. I had the Crème Brûlée ($15). The cream brûlée was perfect! Soft custard with a crunchy sugar shell. It wasn't too sweet - just perfect. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly with balanced flavors. Sal (server) and bus person were very attentive. They cleared dirty dishes and cleared crumbs off the table quickly. Our water and ice tea glasses were also refilled quickly. Actually, all the staff members were friendly and highly attentive. All the female customers were given a long stem red rose before the check came! It was a nice surprise. The only negative was the restaurant was a bit dark. I had trouble reading the menu. That being said, we had a fabulous meal and enjoyed the superior service. We'll definitely return the next time we're in town!

I had a wonderful Monterey clam chowder here! I was seated quickly for a table of one and given water and bread promptly. I asked for a small version of the caesar salad which they brought out as a first course. It also came with a breadstick that I had to avoid, knowing I had my bread bowl coming. Lol. The toppings were generous and it tasted wonderful. Lastly, the chowder came out hot and the bread now had an amazing out crust and a fluffy delicious inside. They were also sweet enough to hand me a rose with my check. Overall great experience and friendly staff.
